There seems to be a genetic predisposition. We do not do genetic testing on a routine basis, but some genes have been identified. There seems to be a trigger and it's interesting that smoking may be one of the triggers. There is so many reasons to stop smoking, but this is an additional one. There ...

Dr. Michele Meltzer, MD, joined the staff of Thomas Jefferson University in 2007. She is currently working with ILAR (International League of Associations for Rheumatology) East Africa to improve opportunities to learn about rheumatic disease in Africa as well as India. She has been active in rheumatology professional societies including the Philadelphia Rheumatism Society and the American College of Rheumatology.
